No. Moissanite is a gemstone in its own right, different from diamond: it is [silicon carbide](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Moissanite), whereas diamond is pure carbon. Discovered in 1893 by the French chemist Henri Moissan in a meteorite, it is now created in a laboratory. It is more refractive than diamond( refractive index of about 2.65 versus 2.42) and disperses about 2.4 times more light into colors, which gives it its very lively rainbow flashes.
